Overview

A dreamscape inspired by Russia

From the Romanovs to Tolstoy to Vladimir Lenin and today's Russia, our interpretation draws on her deep soul to inspire and delight at every turn. This sprawling winter landscape depicts architectural greatness from the instantly recognizable St. Basil's Cathedral to the concept for the hyper-modern Lakhta Center in St. Petersburg.

The Russian sense of humor is on full display here as a bear stops Moscow traffic and a pair of snowmen play their balilykas to a tree as bear cubs look on. Can you spot the man walking a bear on a leash on the steps of the Old St. Petersburg Stock Exchange?

Just opposite the Stock Exchange, look for the famous Rostral Columns. The red Doric columns are both beautiful and practical, formerly acting as a beacon to passing vessels. Seated marble figures decorate the base of each column, representing the four major rivers — the Volga, Dnieper, Neva and Volkhov.

Winter sports from biathlon to Olympic skiing at Sochi dot the landscape all the while contributing to a sense of mystery and wonder. Look for ice sculpture carving, troika rides, dogsleds and ice baths as you wind your way through Winterland.

250 meters of model train track course through the exhibit and its amazing interactive elements will be sure to leave a smile on even a snowman's face.

"But Sasha was from Russia, where the sunsets are longer, the dawns less sudden and sentences are often left unfinished from doubt as how to best end them."

Virginia Woolf
